Service Details:

Visual Inspection

Ensure that all smoke detectors are clean and free from dust or debris. Confirm that they are securely mounted on the ceiling or wall and verify that the alarm indicator lights are functional.

Functional Test

Press the “Test” button on each smoke detector and listen for the alarm sound. If it doesn’t activate, note the location for further action. Repeat this process for all detectors in your premises.

Battery Replacement

Smoke detectors often rely on batteries (usually 9V or AA). Replace these batteries once a year to ensure uninterrupted operation. Set a calendar reminder to do this annually.

Regular Schedule

The service provider will show up and test your smoke detectors monthly.

Early Detection Saves Lives

  1. Early Detection Saves Lives: Smoke alarms act as your first line of defense against fires. In the event of a fire, smoke and toxic gases spread faster than heat. Most fire victims succumb to inhalation of smoke and gases, not burns. Having a working smoke alarm provides precious time for evacuation, especially when occupants are asleep and unaware of the danger. Properly installed and maintained smoke alarms can reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by almost half.
  2. Carbon Monoxide Detection: Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of fuels (like gas, oil, or wood). It’s impossible for our senses to detect it. CO detectors are essential because they can alert you to dangerous levels of CO in your home. Install at least one CO detector on each level of your home to safeguard against this silent threat.
  3. Monthly Testing: Regularly test your smoke alarms and CO detectors to ensure they are functioning correctly. A non-working alarm can leave you and your family unprotected. Test them once a month to verify their operation and replace batteries as needed.
  4. Proper Placement: Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, outside sleeping areas, and inside bedrooms. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and placement. Avoid placing alarms near kitchens, bathrooms, heating appliances, windows, or ceiling fans to prevent nuisance alarms.

Remember, these life-saving devices are your best defense against fire-related emergencies. Regular maintenance ensures they remain effective and keeps your family safe.
